HA5 Task 8 - Review

I think that overall I was able to achieve my ultimate goal for this project, which was to create a sophisticated robotic sidekick that would make logical sense in terms of how it looks and how it might be able to move, behave, fight etc. And that would fit a game that I might be making or experimenting with in the future. I think that my model came out very well albeit with its flaws, of course every project has its minuses and pluses but overall I think I came out with more pluses than minuses in that regard.

Using things like my production logs, evidence, research and my blog in general I can identify several strengths and weaknesses within my work and my project and better know how to fix my weaknesses and keep the strengths in the future and therefore be able to produce work in a much higher quality than before.

In terms of my strengths, I think that I am very good when it comes to planning and managing my time and resources and therefore this gives me an edge over everything else, since with good planning and management I will usually have more time to finish my project and therefore create something of a better quality and quantity. I am also very good when it comes to thinking something through, I usually do very well when combining stuff together, thinking of things like, how will it fit, what the settings are going to be etc. This allows me to not go back as much since I do not fail with something as much. Finally, I think that my final strengths are things such as good attention to detail, taking my time with things and not rushing them, and also making sure that everything is made to the highest quality possible. All of this allowed me to create a good looking and quite functional model based on historical figures.

Now for my weaknesses, and there are a few of them as well. I think that for my first weaknesses is that I can sometimes go over board with something, over think it, take too much time to do it and therefore this can severely slow me down in my projects, I do kind of compensate for this however with good planning and thinking but nonetheless, it is still an issue in many scenarios. Another weakness of mine when it comes to things like modelling is checking for flaws, testing in, are the textures right? are the polygons in good places? is nothing sticking out of the model in a weird and unnatural way? If I were to correct this then I am sure my models would come out in higher quality and in a faster amount of time. I not only have this problem with models, but other things like game engines as well. Lastly, my last weakness is definitely the lack of simplicity, sometimes simplicity is a good thing, and I simply find it hard to do something in a very simple and quick fashion, sometimes I over complicate it sometimes I do too much of it and it is not always necessary to do so. Sometimes it is advised against to make something too detailed or too complicated, a perfect example are my presentations, where I take too long to present them and go over time.

But overall I think that my strengths really outdo the weaknesses when it comes to it and I am generally very proud of the work that I produce and the quality of it.

If I were to do this project again then I would try something completely different, instead of trying to capture different historical unit types equipment in my model for example, I would go for a complete fantasy and wild look. I would also try to not make him humanoid but instead something more like a friendly looking sidekick, such as a small robot on wheels perhaps. I would also organise my time differently allowing me for greater flexibility and quicker finish time. Lastly, I would try to improve on things that I have perhaps failed a little bit on in this project. Such as trying to create a much cleaner model without any buggy polygons. I would also experiment more with texturing, of course if time allowed me to. In this project sadly I couldn't really afford a lot of time for texturing and therefore had to be a little bit quick about it, but overall I think I did well.
